Your Voice provides free independent advocacy to young people aged between 11-18 yrs in the Carlisle and Eden areas.
Young people experiencing mental and emotional distress often don’t feel listened to, understood or properly informed. That’s why we want to assist young people to have a voice. We will encourage and support them to speak up. We want children and young people to feel more confident and better equipped to express themselves.
We know that young people have good ideas about their issues and how to tackle and solve problems. Often though they are still developing the skills to communicate them effectively. Through Your Voice advocacy, we strive to teach the skills and give them the tools to ensure their voice, views, wishes are heard and their rights upheld. This empowers children and young people to know that when they speak up constructively it can change their immediate and long term future. We achieve this by working from their existing strengths and supporting them to develop their life skills.
When a young person feels they are not being heard or not getting the support they need, it can affect their emotional wellbeing. This, in turn, can affect their daily life. Adults may disagree with a young person’s views, wishes and feelings on important issues. Your Voice works in a person centred way, using a young person’s own definition of their issues to help them express their views, wishes, and feelings.
