Trustees

Trustees are integral to the running of Carlisle Eden Mind. Our Board of Trustees is made up of people from all areas of the community. They offer guidance, support and valuable knowledge.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for governance and strategic direction. The Board is accountable for everything we do. This includes setting our strategic direction and scrutinising our performance. They also offer support and empowerment to our management team. In doing so they enable us to continue to deliver high-quality, innovative and user-friendly services for people.

Sheila Marsh

Tell us a bit about yourself

I have worked as a senior manager for over 30 years in both the public and private sector. This includes working for the NHS and also for a disability charity, as well as, a period overseas with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO).

I currently work at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust managing the Library and Knowledge Service including the education and teaching facilities. The service is used by staff and students in the Trust and helps ensure they have access to the information and training they need to treat patients effectively.

I bring a range of knowledge, skills and experience to the role of Trustee gained from my varied career and work experience.

Why did you join the board at CE Mind?

I became a MIND Trustee in November 2021 because I wanted to actively support its valuable work in the local community, having had personal experience of the devastation mental illness can have when individuals and families don’t find the information and support they need.

If you could give one piece of advice for someone who is struggling with mental wellbeing what would it be?

To encourage you to reach out and talk to someone, or seek information about the many different ways you can be supported.

What one piece of advice would you give your younger self-regarding mental wellbeing?

To be kinder to myself. That things I worried about then, will and have passed, and that you aren’t alone

If you could have one super-power, what would it be and why?

To harness the power of information and education to provide real insight into the challenges and impact of mental illness on the lives of individuals and their families so that society as a whole will be more compassionate and supportive of their needs.

My super power would also ensure that everyone has the information they need to enable them to manage their mental health and to know how and where they can seek help if they need it.

Janet Buckley

Tell us a bit about yourself

I have worked in Community Mental Health services throughout my working life, as a psychiatric social worker and as a social care manager.

Why did you join the board at CE Mind?

I have a lifelong interest in Mental Health, and wanted to continue my involvement in mental health on retirement

What one piece of advice would you give your younger self-regarding mental wellbeing?

Talk to people, share how you are feeling, and they will respond. A Smile goes a long way.

If you could have one super-power, what would it be and why?

No Super-Power needed just the ability to connect, comfort and influence how others in distress are feeling.

Carl Bloomfield

Tell us a bit about yourself

I have worked for the local NHS mental health services for the past 34 years in various rolls, majority of which have been for Mental health crisis services.

I have been a scout leader for 14 years for a busy local troop.

Why did you join the board at CE Mind?

Having worked closely with CE Mind over the years with people who have nursed. I felt I could bring my experiences to the board.

If you could give one piece of advice for someone who is struggling with mental wellbeing what would it be?

Reach out you are not alone.

What one piece of advice would you give your younger self-regarding mental wellbeing?

Drop the stiff upper lip, sharing thoughts helps massively

If you could have one super-power, what would it be and why?

Apart from knowing the lottery numbers, lol. (wouldn’t we all)

If I could choose any superpower, I think I would pick flying. I think I would really enjoy how free I would feel and knowing I would have the ability to go almost anywhere. Also, I would love to see the world from a new perspective. I really enjoy seeing things from the perspectives of others.
